Llegada a Japon + Jetlag

Por fin he llegado a Japon despues de approximadamente 20 horas de viaje! El proceso fue bastante cansón  ya que tuve que volver a recoger y mandar mis maletas en cada parada. Mi recomendación es que el viaje sea lo mas corto posible, una buena herramienta para realizar esto sería Wolfram Alpha que te permite calcular la distancia más corta entre dos ciudades, y con esta información puedes plaear ual sería la ruta más corta si no existe vuelo directo desde el aereopuerto más cercano. Como se ve en el link, la distancia más corta desde Puerto Rico y Osaka pasa cais por Nueva York y muy cerca del Océano Ártico. Aquí hay fotos de las capas de hielo:

No puede dormir en el avión, asi que cuando llegue a Japín, no podía quedarme despierta y me quede dormida en la guagua que nos llevaba al dormitorio. No pude ver nada de la ciudad T_T. No pude caer dormida por que necesitaba un buen baño y tenia que dejar saber a mi familia que no estaba muerta y mi tarjeta SIM internacional no estaba funcionando. Gracias a DIos, el centro de computadoras en el dormitorio tenia un buen par de aundifonos con microfono y los pude llamar con Google Voice!

Hoy fui a el supermercado para comprar lo essencial (Leche!) para la semana que me quedare en el dorm, ya que despues me estare quedando en casa de una familia japonesa. Bloggearé despues de estos temas pertinentes ya que necesito un nap y solo son las 7 pm hora local! Este blog me esta tomando 1 hora y media si leen ambos idiomas ;D. Mas fotos de Japon vendran pronto!

Arrival In Japan + Jetlag

So I've arrived in Japan after like 20+ hours of traveling! Although the process was a bit hectic due to having to  check-in my luggage at both checking points, it could have been worse. I guess the best tip is to make the trip as short as possible. A good tool for this is Wolfram Alpha since it calculates the shortest path between any two cities in the world, and you can make your flight decisions using that if there is not a direct flight in at your nearest airport. So  the shortest distance from Puerto Rico to Osaka passes by New York and part of the Arctic circle! The following are some photos from the plane of the ice caps:

I couldn't sleep at all in the plane, so when I arrived at Japan, I was super sleepy so I fell asleep during the bus ride that took us to the dormitories. I saw nothing of the cityscape T_T. But I didn't go to sleep right away since I had to bathe and contact my family and the international SIM card I brought wasn't working. Thankfully the computer center in the dormitory had very good headsets and could call from Google Voice!

I did go to the convenience store today and brought essentials, like milk, for the week I will be in the dormitory, since afterwards,  I will be with my host family. I'll blog more about those subjects later. I need a nap and its only 6:30 pm local time... damn jet lag induced lethargy!

Japon en menos de 3 días!

Se me ha olvidado totalmente blogear! Este mes ha estado muy ajetreado debido a que he tenido que estar empacando, asegurandome que no se me olvide nada impostante y no ayudo mucho que me haya ido por una semana a Atlanta (Aunque la pase super brutal ^_^). Tengo dos blogs pendientes, el de decidir a donde irse de intercambio y el de los celulares, que todavia no he terminado. Ojala los pueda terminar en el avión. Esperenlos y el post que cuente los detalles de mi llegada a Japon!

I have totally relegated this blog. This month has been too hectic with the packing and everything. I have two unfinished blog post regarding cellphones and studying abroad that I have not finished. I will hopefully finish them on the plane. Wait for them and the post chronicling my arrival in Japan!

Año Nuevo, Primer Blog, Introducciones

Yo he querido comenzar este blog hace meses, y que mejor tiempo para comenzarlo que en el comienzo de este Año Nuevo 2012! El propósito del mismo es documentar mis viajes y como los llevo a cabo, para que puedan ser documentados por aquellos que así lo deseen

Este semestre, yo estaré estudiando en Japón! Quería que el blog también documentara mi proceso de solicitud, pero este semestre estuvo demasiado ajetreado en el Colegio. Asi que antes de que parta hacia Japón, estaré escribiendo esporádicamente sobre el proceso de intercambio de estudios internacional, como también las diversas becas que existen para lograrse acabó. Cabe mencionar dos cosas, al ser de Puerto Rico, las becas solo aplican para residentes de los Estados Unidos y Puerto Rico. Además, como yo soy estudiante de bachillerato, me concentraré en mi experiencia, pero también puede que aplique a estudiantes de escuela superior y a estudiantes graduados. Me comprometo con ustedes, lectores que pueden o no existir, a blogear de los siguientes temas:

·         Becas

·         Programas de Intercambios

·         Aprendiendo el Lenguaje

·         Visas, Solicitudes y Porque Uno No Puede Ponerse Maceta al Enviar Cosas por Correo

·         Preparando las Maletas (o maletones en mi caso)

·         Manteneindose en Contacto (Celulares y llamadas por internet)

En Japón, someteré un blog seminal y posiblemente un video blog también… si compro una cámara de video. Este blog estará en los dos idiomas oficiales de la isla de Puerto Rico, (español e inglés) para beneficio de todos, y si logro dominar el lenguaje, en japonés también!

New Year, First Blog, Introduction

I wanted to start this blog for a few months now, and what better time than with the coming of this New Year! Let’s begin with stating this blog’s purpose: to chronicle my travels and how I go about them, so that they may be reproduced for those that might wish to.

I am going to study abroad in Japan this spring semester.  I wanted to chronicle the whole application process, but alas, this semester was too hectic! So before leaving for Japan, I will sporadically update the blog with information about applying to study abroad programs, as well as the information about the scholarships available to fund your travels. Since I am currently an undergraduate, I will focus on my experience, but I want to point out that there are also many opportunities for high school and graduate students. I will (not hope, I am making a commitment here!) blog about the following topics:

·         Scholarships

·         Study Abroad Programs

·         Learning the Language

·         Visas, Applications & Why One Shouldn’t Skimp on Mailing Services

·         Packing

·         Staying in touch (e.g. Cellphones & Internet Calling)

In Japan, I will then blog weekly and hopefully video blog too… if I find a video camara (expect a blog about the subject).  I will also blog bilingually (Spanish & English) and hopefully in Japanese too!
